Dear Centennial families,
What a busy couple of weeks it's been! As you may know, it takes a lot of behind-the-scenes work to run a school ...and this place doesn't happen without your help.
Wondering how you can help? Here are three ideas for you:
1. Volunteer to support lunch coverage for teachers. We need parents to volunteer for a minimum of 30 minutes to cover classes so teachers can enjoy a duty-free lunch break. Lunch runs from 10:15 am - 1:30 pm, so if you're able to help us out, please email Ms. Meadows directly. (All volunteers will need to complete an APS Background Check and also present a negative covid-19 test prior to their volunteer time slot).
2. Become a Daily Substitute for Centennial Academy! Did we also mention there's a $500 signing bonus? With five current openings, we are in desperate need of substitute teachers and believe that our scholars will best be served by those who are already in our parent pool.
Here, click on this flyer to learn more: 3. Fill out your Remote Learning Form! Because we need 100% participation, we've extended the deadline to TOMORROW. We've also opened up Centennial's Virtual Academy to new scholars as well, so if you know of a local family who was left without a virtual schooling option that worked for them, do let them know about this unique opportunity to join the Centennial family.
Also, just a reminder that any current family that does not complete the form will automatically default to in-person learning. If you haven't already, be sure to check out the Parent University: Remote Learning Plan video from a couple of weeks ago.
Otherwise, click on the flyer below to head directly to the required form: As always, don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions. We are here for you and we are in this with you.
Warmly,
Centennial Academy Communications

And now, a note from Ms. Hodges, Associate Head of School Greetings Centennial Academy Families,
Happy 8th week of school! This week I want to highlight an important initiative Centennial Academy has implemented this year, our Beyond the Bell program. Beyond the Bell is designed to offer scholars personalized instruction in the areas of reading and mathematics through the instructional tool, i-Ready. Scholars have completed their benchmark assessments and are now engaged in i-Ready Personalized Instruction, which delivers powerful online lessons that motivate scholars on their paths toward proficiency and growth.
Driven by insights from the i-Ready Diagnostic, i-Ready's online K–8 lessons provide tailored instruction that meets scholars where they are in their learning journey and encourages them as they develop new skills.
I-Ready Personalized Instruction also...
→Taps into the rich data from the i-Ready Diagnostic to deliver personalized learning paths to growth for each student, balancing rigor and reachability.
→Meets learners at their level, helps them problem solve, and keeps them motivated to continue their progress.
→Provides digital instruction that is proven to drive gains for students at all levels and is backed by evidence for the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Includes a wide range of accessibility features to maximize usability for all scholars
Parents, this initiative is critical to the academic success of each and every scholar at Centennial, so remember, Beyond the Bell starts promptly at 7:15 am! As soon as scholars cross our doors, they head straight to their homeroom to grab their Chromebooks and engage in this dynamic learning tool.
How can you help? Make sure your scholar is at school as close to 7:15 am as possible. That's it! That's our only ask.
Otherwise, this newsletter is jam packed with other reminders, including a VERY fun video, starring a couple of our Kindergarten Heroes, in the "Covid-19 Guidance, as it Relates to Us" section below. Be sure to read everything thoroughly.

In Service,
Stephanie Hodges COVID-19 GUIDANCE, AS IT RELATES TO US 1. We are excited to announce that Centennial has experienced a decrease in the number of positive Covid-19 cases. Bravo! Our mitigation strategies are working, so parents, please continue to send your scholar to school in a mask and do allow your scholar to remain home if they are feeling ill.
2. Participating in weekly surveillance testing is so easy, even for the youngest of scholars! It happens every Thursday at Centennial Academy, so parents, please fill out the digital consent form if you haven't already.
Want to know how easy it is? Watch this video to find out: 3. For weekly reports on Covid-19 numbers at the school, please visit the Atlanta Public Schools Covid-19 Weekly Case Report. In an effort to communicate well and not inundate your inbox, we will not be sending out notices every time a scholar or staff member tests positive.
