Media Coverage of Incident at Centennial Academy

Please note the following official statement regarding the recent media coverage of an incident that occurred at Centennial:

Official Statement: Centennial Academy confirms that an incident occurred during a Physical Education Class on January 26, 2018, between two Middle Academy Scholars on campus. This class was under the supervision of a certified Physical Education Teacher and a Paraprofessional. At the time that it was discovered that an incident occurred, the certified Physical Education Teacher took immediate action and transported the scholar to the onsite school clinic. The School Nurse took appropriate measures and followed the school emergency procedures protocol and initiated communication with both the impacted scholar's parents and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. An incident report was filed and school leadership has taken appropriate steps to address the issues raised, including the confidential handling of the questions related to discipline consequences per Georgia State Law O.C.G.A. 20-2-757. In general, students are not disciplined solely on the basis of alleged behavior, but rather for misconduct school officials can determine actually took place. Our inquiry into this matter mainly indicated this was an isolated and unfortunate accident, and Centennial Academy will continue to enforce appropriate measures and protocols to help keep our scholars safe.
