On Thursday, December 1, 2016, Centennial Academy hosted Leadership Atlanta's Education Day. Leadership Atlanta is the oldest sustained community leadership program in the nation.
Leaders shadowed Centennial Academy scholars and followed their class schedules in order to experience the school day through the lens of students in Atlanta. This year's Education Day had three primary goals for the current Leadership Atlanta Class of 2017: Connect, Contextualize, and Commit.
"The connection between Leadership Atlanta leaders and Centennial Academy scholars is an often underestimated, yet critically important component of a meaningful educational experience," stated Centennial Academy's Head of School, Carol Santos. "Scholars' personal exposure to extraordinary, yet ordinary people who were once just like them and who now, as adults, turned their education into very interesting and meaningful careers and lives of fulfillment is very often the spark to the awesome vision scholars will have for their own lives."
Additionally, Centennial Academy was excited to showcase its new iGallery during the Leadership Atlanta visit. Through a collaboration with the ZuCot Gallery, the school recently underwent a transformation in order to prominently display scholar work, whether digital, artistic, or literary, in a gallery-style method.
This year's Education Day successfully immersed the Leadership Atlanta class in the unique culture of Centennial Academy and allowed the cohort to exercise the 21st Century success skills expected of all scholars: Collaboration, Work Ethic, Critical Thinking, and Communication.
